Malva sylvetris

Origin :
This plant commonly grows wild in Europe, northern Africa, and western and northern Asia. It grows in dry soils preferably rich in nitrates (meadows, waste ground, fields and lanes).

Description :
Its stem is generally 30 to 70 cm high but can reach 1 to 1.5 m. Its mauve solitary flowers are hermaphrodite, axillary and terminal, with regular petals. The fruit is a capsule composed of several carpels forming a circle.

Properties :
It is well-know for its decongesting properties, and moreover for its freshening and softening action.

History :
It symbolises softness. Sown near sepulchres in antiquity, it brought peace and serenity to the souls of the dead.
